Gujarat gelatin man gives wife a hug of death | India News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: Their love wound up in separation, their life ended in a fatal bang. A 45-year-old man from Aravalli district of Gujarat rigged his chest with two gelatin sticks and set off the explosives while embracing his estranged wife for the last time on Thursday.
Police sources said Lala Pagi killed his wife Sharda and himself after being unable to persuade her to reunite with him. Sharda left Pagi’s home about 45 days ago and had been staying with her father in Meghraj town, about 135km from Ahmedabad. Her brother Bhavan alleged that Sharda walked out because of the physical and mental harassment she suffered from Pagi and his family.
Pagi came to visit Sharda around 9pm on Thursday at her father’s home, gave her a hug when she came out to receive him and immediately set off the explosion that sent tremors through the area and could be heard from afar. Isari police station inspector CP Vaghela said Sharda died instantly and Pagi perished shortly afterwards. The couple is survived by their 21-year-old son.
A case was registered against Pagi at Isari police station. Investigators are trying to find out how Pagi got hold of the gelatin sticks and learned to rig it to his body like a suicide bomber. Gandhinagar range IGP Abhay Chudasama said such explosives are used in tribal areas to catch fish.
