Gujarat Budget 2022: What did farmers get in Kanubhai Desai’s budget?

Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the state budget for 2022-23 today. With Gujarat state elections due later this year, this will be the last budget presentation for the Bhupendra Patel-led BJP government in the current term.

Presenting his maiden budget in the Gujarat state assembly, Desai highlighted the achievements of his government and said that the per capita income in the state has grown rapidly in the last two decades. From Rs 19,823 in 2002, Gujarat’s per capita is Rs 2,04,809 today.

Desai announced special initiatives for the state’s farmers, including an allocation of Rs 757 crore for agricultural research initiatives. In his budget speech, he announced a total provision of Rs 7737 crore for agriculture and farmer welfare. This includes allocation of Rs 10,000 crore to provide subsidy of Rs 6,000 per year to each farmer family under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Here are some other major announcements for the agriculture sector under the Gujarat budget:

8300 crore subsidy to provide agriculture connections to farmers along with subsidized electricity.

Provision of Rs 2310 crore for crop rearing schemes.

Rs 260 crore for subsidizing the purchase of various agricultural machinery including tractors.

231 crores for various projects for agriculture and allied sectors under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.

213 crores for maintenance of cows for farmers engaged in completely cow based organic farming

Under the Chief Minister Pak Sangharsh Yojna, Rs 142 crore has been allocated for the construction of small godowns in the fields.

Formation of Gujarat Natural Agriculture Development Board with a provision of Rs 100 crore to promote organic farming in the state.

100 crore budget for providing subvention to agriculture and food processing units under omnibus agribusiness policy.

– Rs 10 crore to promote “Sanedo”, a farm equipment developed by local manufacturers of the state

Apart from this, a provision of Rs 369 crore has also been made in the budget for various schemes for horticulture under the Directorate of Horticulture.

The announcement of animal husbandry includes Rs 300 crore for interest relief on short-term loans to livestock farmers and Rs 500 crore for cow protection and infrastructure facilities to Gaushala, Panjrapole and trust managed institutions under Mukhyamantri Gaumata Poshan Yojana. A provision of Rs.880 crore has been made for the development of fisheries in the state in the Gujarat budget for 2022-23.
