Gujarat Assembly Elections: ‘AAP breached BJP’s fortress in Gujarat, will win next time,’ says Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday (December 8, 2022) thanked the people of Gujarat for helping AAP “break the BJP’s fort” and asserted that the party would win the state next time. In a video message, Kejriwal said though AAP did not win many seats in Gujarat, the votes it polled helped it get national party status. AAP won five seats and secured a vote share of 12.92 per cent in the Gujarat Assembly polls announced by the State Election Commission. The Delhi Chief Minister said, “I am thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping us achieve the status of a national party. Very few parties have achieved this status and now we are one of them. Ours is only a 10-year-old party.” ” Told.

Already recognized as a state party in Delhi, Punjab and Goa, AAP was just one state away from earning national party status. After opening its account in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, the party will get national status. To gain the status of a national party, a political organization needs to be recognized in at least four states. It needs to win at least two seats and 6 per cent votes in the assembly elections to be recognized as a state party. Kejriwal said, “Your AAP is now a national party. The people of Gujarat have made it a national party. Based on the votes polled in Gujarat, legally you are now a national party.”

The AAP fielded candidates in all 182 assembly seats to run a high-decibel campaign for the polls in an attempt to break into the BJP’s stronghold of Gujarat. The party positioned itself and its national convenor Kejriwal as the only challengers to the BJP and Prime Minister Modi, respectively. He said Gujarat is considered a bastion for the BJP and the people of the state helped AAP break into it. “Gujarat is considered a BJP bastion. We got around 13 per cent votes. There are many people who have trusted us and voted for us for the first time. This time, we broke the fort and next time, your With blessings, we will win it,” he said.

Kejriwal also said that his party’s leaders did not indulge in a campaign of mud-slinging or abusive politics but talked about the work and positive things it had done in Delhi and Punjab. “We only talked about the work done by us in Punjab and Delhi and how, if we get an opportunity in Gujarat, we will work for the people. The AAP on Wednesday ended the BJP’s 15-year tenure in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi – divided into North, South and East corporations in 2012 and unified this year – by winning 134 seats, restricting the BJP to 104 seats. Kejriwal traveled between Gujarat and Delhi to campaign for the party.
