Police have detained eight persons, including three examinees, for allegedly sharing and copying the answers of the state forest guard recruitment examination in Gujarat’s Mehsana district. An official gave this information on Monday. The examination was conducted by Gujarat University on behalf of the State Forest Department on Sunday between 12 noon to 2 pm.
Mehsana Superintendent of Police Partharajsinh Gohil said it was not a case of “paper leak” and the incident was confined to just one examination center here. In a school in Unawa village here, an employee of the examination center took a picture of a student’s question paper. Candidates absent soon after the commencement of the examination, he said. Some of the accused persons were busy during the examination in a room of the same center to solve the questions. He reportedly shared the answer with the three candidates, as was pre-planned, the official said.
“They managed to solve 44 questions out of 100 and then shared the answers with three candidates. He also shared the answer with the fourth candidate to silence him, as he had seen him sharing the answer with other examinees during the toilet break. The supervisor, who then alerted the police, he said.
“It is not a case of the question paper being leaked in advance or selling it at a price. After the commencement of the examination, a teacher misbehaved at the examination center. b) (criminal conspiracy), 406 and 409 (dealing with criminal breach of trust) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
“All the eight accused have been taken into custody,” Gohil said. The opposition Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat on Sunday accused the BJP government in the state of failing to ensure fair conduct of the examination.
State Education Minister Jitu Vaghani had said on Sunday that as per the preliminary information received by him, there was a case of cheating at the examination center in Unawa village of Mehsana.
