AHMEDABAD: With Gujarat achieving 90% coverage of both the doses of Covid vaccination on Sunday, state health department officials said that of the total eligible population, about 6 lakh persons are yet to take a dose and the second dose is pending for 48 lakh.
As on Sunday, the state has covered 98.8% population with the first dose, one of the highest figures among the Indian states.
“The state has so far administered 5.17 crore first doses, 4.75 crore second doses, and 17.8 lakh precaution doses, totaling 10.1 crore,” said a senior official. “While maximum coverage has been achieved, attempts are on to reach the last person and ensure that all eligible persons get vaccinated.” The official said that special drives are being organized at district and city levels.
Officials said that the latest wave’s overall statistics showed the effects of high vaccination with very low mortality rate compared to the second wave. “Citizens have become aware of the benefits of the jabs and we see better compliance when it comes to the second and precaution doses,” said the official. “Even among the teens, of the 30 lakh targeted population, 29 lakh have been covered with the first and 13 lakh with both the doses.”
