HIGHLIGHTS

  • On Tuesday, GT beat RR by seven wickets
  • Shubman Gill scored a quick-fire 35
  • The Royals will get another chance to qualify for the final

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill was over the moon after his team qualified for the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmadabad. On Tuesday, May 24, Hardik Pandya and Co. Defeated Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets and carried on with their domination from the league stage.

Gill, who previously played four seasons for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was happy after plying his trade at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“Kolkata has always been nice to me, and fortunately it was one of those nights,” Gill was quoted as saying after the Titans got over the line.

BALL WAS HOLDING UP

Gill also said that the pitch at the venue in Kolkata wasn’t an absolute belter and the bowlers got a lot of assistance from the surface.

“Nice to be in the final. Batting at Eden Gardens is an opportunity you look forward to. We expected the pitch to be a complete belter. The ball was holding up, and the spinners were getting grip. It’s been tremendous to be a part of this team,” he added.

Gill played a crucial role in GT’s win over RR as he scored 35 runs off 21 balls with five fours and one six. His knock came to an end in the eighth over after Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer combined to run him out.

After being asked to chase down 189, the Titans got past the finishing line with three balls to spare. David Miller was the star of the show for the Titans as he smashed 68 runs off 38 balls with three fours and five sixes.
