Green Lantern was released in 2011 and failed miserably at the box office.
Martin Campbell, who directed the box office film Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds in 2011, admitted that it was partly his fault that it failed.
Fans of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively know how the two met on the set of the 2011 superhero film The Green Lantern. The Canadian-American actor himself has admitted how the film was not like a typical superhero flick and had not seen the film himself until this year.
Now, it seems that even the director of the film, Martin Campbell, has admitted that he should not have directed the film. The New Zealander recently admitted that superhero movies are not his specialty as he promoted his upcoming film The Protege. Speaking to ScreenRant, Campbell said that just like Zack Snyder and other filmmakers who had their own director’s cut for their superhero movies, they too had the Campbell cut. However, he admitted that the film didn’t work and that’s the bottom line.
The filmmaker admitted that he is “partly responsible for this.” The 77-year-old filmmaker said, “I shouldn’t have done this. Superhero films are not my cup of tea.” He further mentioned that directors always have to collect for failures as he recalled the saying, “Success has many fathers, failure has one. Aur Woh Main.”
Green Lantern did not work for Reynolds or Campbell due to a number of factors, such as studio interference, who wanted to release the film on a set date. Reynolds fans know how the actor makes fun of the film and criticizes it at any opportunity. This year, the actor celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by watching the film for the first time and redeemed himself on his Twitter account.
Excited to see Snyder cut. But before its launch – and with the help of a good amount #aviationgin – Tonight at 6 p.m. EST I’ll do something I’ve never done: actually watch Green Lantern. Happy #St. Patrick’s Day— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 17, 2021

Green Lantern did not complete the end of superhero movies for Reynolds as the actor took on the hilarious and bloody role of Deadpool, another DC Comics superhero.
