In a case of “honour killing” in Greater Noida, a woman’s family got her husband killed five years after she eloped and married against her family’s wishes. Police have arrested the woman’s father, uncle and two contract killers hired by the family to do the job while two more accused persons are on the run.

According to a report published by NDTV, police said the family mortgaged jewellery to hire the contract killers. The incident took place two weeks ago and the man’s body was found on June 16 near Surajpur police line in Greater Noida, they said.

The NDTV report said the woman had eloped five years ago and married the man against her family’s wishes. But, out of the blue, her estranged family extended an olive branch and invited the husband over for drinks, the report said.

The report further said while on his way home from his in-laws’ house, he was strangled by contract killers hired by his wife’s family. It is not known if the woman was also present at the time.

Police have seized a weapon used in the murder, besides other evidence along with the car and the mortgaged jewellery used in the crime, the report said. A search is on to arrest the accused at large, it added.
