For the first time since the pandemic, the Grammy Awards are being held in Los Angeles this year. Last year, the awards were held in Las Vegas. Trevor Noah hosted the ceremony. He won the award for ‘Divine Tides’ as it was nominated in the Best Immersive Audio Album category. The result was announced in a live ceremony held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, USA.

Who is Ricky Cage?

Born in America, Cage moved to Bangalore at the age of eight. Although he had a degree in dentistry, music has always been his obvious choice for a career. While still in college, he joined the progressive rock group Angel Dust. Later he opened his own recording studio. He started working full-time as a musician and started his career as a musician in 2003. Apart from producing 17 studio albums in a career spanning 20 years, he has written jingles for several advertisements and music for Kannada films.

Cage has released over a dozen studio albums and composed music for over 3,000 Kannada films and commercial jingles. He also composed the music for the opening ceremony of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. It is interesting to note that while most of his albums were physically released in the US, they were not in India.

Ricky Cage’s Grammy Wins

Ricky won his first Grammy in 2015 for ‘Winds of Samsar’ in the Best New Age Album category. The project debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard New Age Albums chart – a first for anyone of Indian descent. The Indian musician won his second Grammy in the Best New Age Album category at the 64th Grammy Awards 2022. He won the award for the same album with rock legend Stewart Copeland.

Ricky is the youngest person from India to win a Grammy Award, and only the fourth Indian to do so.

Cage has supported a variety of causes over the years and last December was appointed a “Goodwill Ambassador” for the UNHCR. They have been accorded the honor of ‘Leaders’ and ‘Heroes’ in several global lists and are part of the school curriculum for the ISCE English textbooks. He is the founder and drummer of the British rock group The Police, which has sold over 75 million albums worldwide.
