Govt steps up effort to evacuate stranded Indians from Ukraine; Anti-war protests in Russia; more

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Vladimir Putin about India’s concerns regarding the safety of the Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students. In a phone call with the Russian President late Thursday, the Prime Minister sought concerted efforts from all sides to return to the path of diplomatic negotiations and dialogue.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday night spoke to his counterparts from Romania, Hungary and Slovakia on the evacuation of stranded Indians from Ukraine.

Jaishankar also held a telephonic conversation with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov on the Ukraine crisis and underlined that dialogue and diplomacy are the best way forward to defuse the situation.

Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko confirmed six explosions near Kyiv. According to him, “attacks are carried out by cruise or ballistic missiles”. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, a Russian “aircraft” was shot down over Kyiv.
