The central government has taken action against the banned terrorist organization ‘Sikhs for Justice’ (SFJ), which supports Khalistan. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered to block the app, website and social media handles of Punjab Politics TV. Based on the inputs received by the ministry, all platforms of Punjab Politics TV have been banned. The connection of Punjab Politics TV is being told with ‘Sikhs for Justice’.

According to information to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through these channels of Punjab Politics TV, an attempt was made to spoil the atmosphere in the assembly elections. He was also taking recourse to online media. The ministry has imposed a ban on all digital platforms of Punjab Politics TV by exercising emergency powers under the IT rules.

  • The name of ‘Sikh for Justice’ had been in the news a lot during the farmers’ movement. The foundation of this organization was laid in 2007 in America. The main agenda of SFJ is to create a separate Khalistan in Punjab. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a lawyer in America and a law student from Punjab University, is the main face of this organization. This channel is run from America only.
  • Sikh for Justice Organization has been outlawed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. SFJ founder leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has been declared an ‘individual terrorist’ under UAPA for promoting separatism. The Information Ministry said that the government is vigilant and committed to safeguard the overall information environment in India.
  • On February 18, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a terrorist of ‘Sikh for Justice’, released a video calling the deaths of Punjabi Singh and actor Deep Sidhu as political murders. In the video, he had alleged that the Indian government had got Deep Sidhu murdered. Security agencies had issued an alert after the Facebook video of a Khalistani terrorist.

SFJ’s name also came in hijab controversy
The name of Sikh for Justice has also come up in the demonstration during the Karnataka Hijab controversy. While issuing an alert, the intelligence agencies said that Pakistani intelligence agency ISI is conspiring to spread chaos in India through the hijab referendum through the Khalistani terrorist organization. A website has also been created for Hijab Referendum in India. Sikh for Justice had released a propaganda video to incite the hijab controversy. Pictures of Muskaan, a girl in the hijab controversy, were also used in the video.

New IT rules are becoming the strength of the government
The Government of India has implemented the New Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 on May 26, 2021. Thanks to the emergency powers of the new IT Rule 16, the government can block any channel, websites and social platforms. The government has prepared the new rules with the intention that the incidents of misuse of social media and digital platforms can be stopped. These included many issues like luring terrorists to recruit, circulation of objectionable content, financial fraud, promoting violence.

  • If an objectionable picture of someone is posted on social media, it will have to be removed within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
  • If any court or government body seeks information about the first originator of any objectionable, mischievous tweet or message, then the companies will have to give it.
  • Companies will have to appoint Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person, Resident Grievance Officer in three months. These will be Indian citizens.
  • The user who wants his verification, social media companies will have to provide it to him. Like Twitter gives a blue tick to the verified account.
