Government of Tamil Nadu. Enforces Sunday lockdown along with night curfew to stop the spread of coronavirus

Tamil Nadu Corona Lockdown: As the country faces a fresh surge with several states officially stating the emergence of a third wave of the coronavirus, restrictions are being imposed by the administration to contain the spread of the virus. In view of the increasing cases of corona virus in Tamil Nadu, the state government has announced a complete lockdown for one day on Sunday. Colleges, offices, markets, malls, spas and gyms will remain closed on every Sunday. However, essential services are allowed to operate.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had announced night curfew from the next day on 5 January. There is a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am. The services that are allowed to operate during Sunday’s lockdown are medical stores, milk distribution, newspapers, petrol pumps, ATMs and goods transport. While all e-commerce services are prohibited during this time, restaurants can offer food delivery and takeaway from 7 am to 10 pm.

People will have to show valid travel tickets to reach airports, railway stations and bus stations during the night curfew and Sunday lockdown. Schools have been closed for classes 1 to 9. Apart from this, crches, kindergarten classes and play schools are also completely closed.

Tamil Nadu saw an increase of 10,978 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the total tally to 27,87,391. The death toll rose to 36,843 with 10 new deaths. In the last 24 hours, 1,525 people have recovered from the infection. So far 27,10,288 people have been cured. The total active cases in the state currently stand at 40,260.
