The government had fixed the FRP of sugarcane at Rs 285 per quintal for the current 2020-21 marketing year. The Center announced the FRP every year before the start of the sugarcane crushing season, which is the minimum price that mills have to pay to sugarcane growers.
In order to ensure that higher sugar realizations are adequately rewarded and considering the variations between sugar mills, FRP is linked to the original recovery rate of sugar, with farmers for higher recovery of sugar from cane. premium is payable.
Goyal said, “When the recovery increases by more than 10 per cent, an additional payment of Rs 2.90 per quintal is made at each point of increase of 1 per cent. If the recovery of a farmer is less than 9.5 per cent, his FRP is also 275 per quintal will be Rs. said.
The Center had increased the FRP by Rs 10 to Rs 285 per quintal in August 2020. In 2019-2020, the government had fixed the FRP of sugarcane at Rs 275 per quintal.
Under the FRP system, farmers need not wait till the end of the season or for any announcement of profits by the sugar mills or the government.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public, the new system also assures farmers of profit and margin on account of risk, irrespective of whether sugar mills generate profit or not and is not dependent on the performance of an individual sugar mill. Delivery.
