Government appoints bureaucrat Vikram Dev Dutt as chairman of Air India Limited

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday approved the appointment of senior bureaucrat Vikram Dev Dutt as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India Limited.

The appointment of Dutt, a 1993 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, is as part of a senior-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the central government.

An order issued by the Personnel Ministry said that he has been appointed as the Chief of Air India in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary.

Earlier, Dutt was appointed as the Principal Secretary, Health Department, Government of Delhi in June 2020. However, the IAS officer was transferred as the principal secretary of the services department in March 2021.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that the acquisition of Air India by the Tata group as part of the government’s disinvestment program may be delayed by a month.

In October last year, the government had declared Tata Sons subsidiary Tales as the highest bidder for national carrier Air India as part of the disinvestment process.

Under the agreement, Tata Sons will own 50 per cent stake in ground-handling company AISATS, along with 100 per cent equity shares of Air India and Air India Express.

Tata Sons had quoted an enterprise value of Rs 18,000 crore for the Centre’s 100 per cent equity stake in Air India along with Air India Express and AISATS.
