Gorakhnath temple attack: Airgun and shrapnel recovered from accused Murtaza’s house

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police has got new evidence against Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, accused of Gorakhnath temple attack.

According to the police, Murtaza was practicing firing with an air gun on the terrace of his residence in Gorakhpur for a long time.

The air guns and pellets recovered from Murtaza have been handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is probing the matter.

UP ATS has formed seven teams, which are conducting raids in Noida, Kanpur, Sambhal and Saharanpur. ABP News reported that a team of ATS also visited Lucknow today in connection with the matter.

About a dozen people from different districts of the state have been picked up by the ATS for investigation. The investigating agency has prepared a list of 40-50 people who spoke to Murtaza over the phone or were in touch with him through various means.

Meanwhile, ATS today brought Murtaza to its headquarters in Lucknow for further investigation.

Murtaza’s medical test was done before going to Lucknow. After receiving several documents written in Arabic language from his laptop, his laptop and mobile have also been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further investigation. Several hate videos of controversial Islamic preachers were also found in his device.

IIT graduate Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi on Sunday forcibly tried to enter the Gorakhnath temple complex and attacked two on-duty police constables with a sharp weapon kept in his bag.

Murtaza was arrested and produced in a local court, from where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
