Google Ending sign-in support for devices running very old versions of Android. The tech giant is sending users emails saying sign-in won’t be supported Android version 2.3.7 and lower. To continue using Google apps on their phones, they’ll need to upgrade to android version 3.0 or higher.
“Signing in to your account on the Google apps will no longer be supported on phones with Android Version 2.3.7 or lower is starting September 27″ reads an email received by some Google users. This means that as of September 27, people running Android 2.3.7 or lower will have access to their accounts. Can’t sign in. These include Android 1.0, 1.1 (anonymous), 1.5 Cupcake, 1.6 Donut, 2.0 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread.
In the email, Google says the move is intended to “help protect the security of your account. Actions such as system and application-level signing will result in a “username or password error.”
According to the Google Help page, the sing-in error will occur in the following cases:
