The Pixel 8 made in India plans have been set in motion since early this year. In fact, Google has committed to its broader plans for the Indian market with its domestic assembly of the latest Pixel 8 models at the launch event last year.
Now, the promise seems to have been fulfilled and you are going to see the latest Pixel 8 models on the shelf with the made in India stamp on the retail box. “Excited to announce that the first of our Made in India Google #Pixel8 devices have started rolling off the production lines,” as confirmed by Google on the platform.
Google has taken its time to set up local production in India, even falling behind the likes of Apple which has been assembling iPhones for many years with its vendors in the country. The company is likely to have set up the local assembly with the help of domestic vendors which Google has not talked about or shared details on for the time being. The post doesn’t tell if the production is limited to the Pixel 8 model or even the 8 Pro version is being made in India from now.
Time For Cheaper Pixel 8 In India?
So, does the news of a make in India Pixel 8 finally change that image of the company? Can we expect Google to start selling the Pixel 8 at a cheaper price?
What we can say is that Apple took a few years before being able to stabilise the prices of the iPhone 14/15 models that were assembled in the country, so it is likely that the Pixel 8 prices might take a similar time to become cheaper than what you pay in the country right now.
The news comes just a day before the new Pixel 9 series is announced for the Indian market and this year buyers will get a chance to shop at the premium table. Google has confirmed that the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold are coming to the country while details about the other products are not known for now.
