Google Pixel 6a spotted at FCC, may launch in May

New Delhi: As speculated earlier, the launch of Google Pixel 6a may be near as the smartphone has been spotted on the website of US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), thus, confirming its existence. It is likely that the Pixel 6a will be announced at the Google I/O event to be held in May.

According to the US FCC listing, four models of the Google Pixel 6a have been seen: G1AZG, GX7AS, GB17L and GB62Z. One of these models comes with 5G mmW support and the other three have sub-5G band. As per the FCC listing, the GB62Z and GX7AS models are the base models while the GB62Z model is the one that supports 5G mmW. One of these models could be Pixel 7. A previous FCC listing had suggested that the GX7AS model is related to the Google Pixel 6a.

Expected specs and features of Google Pixel 6a

If we look at previous leaks and rumours, the Pixel 6a is likely to sport a similar camera design on the back of the flagship Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Some leaked photos of the alleged Pixel 6a’s packaging and initial benchmarks suggest that the device could offer similar performance to the expensive Pixel models.

The Google Pixel 6a is likely to sport a 6.2-inch OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 6a could be powered by a Google Tensor chipset and the storage configuration would be 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. There could be a 4,500mAh battery with support for 20W+ fast charging. Other possible features could be facial recognition and Android 12 OS.

The last Google Pixel device to be launched in India was the Pixel 4a which was announced in 2020. A previous leak by tipster Max Jambor suggested that Google may launch the Pixel 6a in India in May and a recent FCC listing supports it. However, there is no official word from Google on the launch in India as well as other countries.
