Google Maps Removes Millions of Fake Profiles Using AI Tech to Block Scammers

Google Maps is widely used for many purposes like location finding, navigation and even looking for some of the companies listed on the platform. You can get office addresses and their location using Maps but over the years people have edited profiles to change phone numbers and addresses.

Such efforts have made Maps less reliable, but Google is now using AI technology to remove edited profiles of a company and any fake profiles so that people are not duped online. google maps says It has removed over a million profiles over the past year using its expertise in machine learning, helping it identify scammers and fraud profiles listed on the platform.

It has also blocked more than 100 million edits made to target specific Google business profiles in 2021. Google says that by using machine learning, the ability to catch such accounts and fake profiles has been improved.

It also helped Google remove 7 million fake business profiles, a staggering number to say the least. It noted that a small portion of these takedowns were based on real humans reporting the profile.

Online fraud is a huge threat, and scammers find new ways to attack consumers. Google Maps and its popularity have made it an easy target, and by changing the phone numbers or addresses of certain brands, these attackers have been able to trick people into paying for products online, or even Somehow able to capture their payment details.
