Google Maps now lets you pan around without losing your pin because now, once the pin is off the screen—an indicator appears on the side of the map—making it easy to move your assigned destination.

Google is rolling out a new feature to Google Maps – helping users keep track of a set pin. Typically, when you search for a new location on Google Maps, a red pin shows the address for easy reference as you explore nearby streets and attractions. But, more often than not, you can lose the pin and have to zoom out and scan the area until you find it again—making the experience cumbersome.

As per a report by Android Police, the tech giant now lets you pan around without losing your pin as now, once the pin is off screen – an indicator appears on the edge of the map in the direction where Your set is the pin, and “remains relative to the initial placement of the pin as you pan or rotate the map.” In fact, when you tap the pointer, Google Maps will re-focus on the pin—making it easier to move to your assigned destination.

Android Police further notes that this is a worldwide account-based rollout, and occurs independently of the Google Maps version, but is still in its early stages. Ergo, if you haven’t got it, you will get it soon once Google rolls it out widely. Google has been proactive in releasing such quality-of-life updates, including the new Immersive View, which was released last week, and always-on display support for WearOS smartwatches.

The Immersive View feature of Google Maps lets users view existing high-resolution satellite images of popular areas and sites by incorporating dynamic flyovers with relevant time and weather information. It also combines interior shots of some buildings.
