Google Maps for iOS gets dark mode, widgets and live location with new update

Google Maps has announced three updates for the iOS app which includes widgets, in-built dark mode and live location. In a blog post, Google says the new updates will be available this month, without specifying an exact rollout date. Starting with the Live Location feature, this feature will be available on native iMessage. To use the feature, look for the Google Maps symbol on the shortcut menu and share location. The software giant explains that users’ locations will be shared for one hour by default, with the option to extend up to three days. To end the share, tap the “Pause” button on the thumbnail.

When in a widget, shortcut buttons will let users search on Google Map Or set the location directly at home and work place. Users can also view restaurants and gas stations with shortcut buttons on the widgets. To install Maps Widget, make sure you have the latest version of the app downloaded from the App Store. Then, touch and hold an empty area until your apps move > in the upper-left corner, tap the Add button > find and tap the Google Maps app > swipe to select a widget, then add a widget > Tap Tap. Finally, Google Maps will finally be compatible with iOS’s native dark mode. Till now, the background of apps remained white even after turning on dark mode from Settings. To turn it on, go to your Settings, tap Mode, then select “On.”
