Google is removing the hottest feature of Android Auto in Android 12 – Times of India

If you’re used to turning on someone android auto The moment you step inside your car you miss out on the convenience you would have used the most. With Android 12 update, Android Auto for phone screen is no longer supported. This means, you can no longer use Android Auto on your smartphone’s display and you will need a compatible car screen to use Android Auto.
With the Android Auto for Phone screen, you were able to project your phone’s interface into the dash of your car by simply connecting your phone. It introduced larger icons and offered support for Google Assistant too. But if you want to enjoy a similar experience right now, you have to use the assisted driving mode.
In a statement to 9to5Google, Google said, “Google Assistant Driving Mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For those who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, the experience is not going to end. Experiences on the phone (Android Auto mobile app) will be transferred to Google Assistant driving mode. Starting with Android 12, Google Assistant driving mode will be a built-in mobile driving experience. This time we have something to share. There are no further details for this.”
Assisted driving mode might look better on the dash of a car but it’s not as user-friendly as Android Auto for phone screens. This is because in order to use it, you will need to use Google Map and activate driving mode. Only then will you get access to calls, messages and other apps on the big screen of your car. Now, if you’re visiting a known location, you won’t always want to use Google Maps, without which you’ll be unable to use the feature. There was no such need for Android Auto for the phone screen and all you had to do was connect your phone.
According to a report by XDA Developers, Pixel Devices with Android 12 are already showing a notification that says Android Auto is only available for the car screen and on phones, you’ll need to use Google Assistant driving mode instead.
So, until your Android phone gets the latest Android 12 update, you can continue using it, but eventually you will have to shift to driving mode or upgrade your car’s infotainment system.
