Google has reportedly acknowledged issues with ads affecting its Messages app in India, and the company is now disabling the feature completely in the country. Google was quoted as saying in a report by Android Authority this week and promised to work with the industry to ensure that such issues never trouble users in the country again.
The company has observed that such practices do not align with its policies, particularly in sending promotional messages to users on the Messages app.

The Google Messages app got its Rich Communication Services or RCS service a few years back, which lets you send rich content like images and emoji via SMS to other users. It can be enabled by you from the Messages app setting. But as we found out a few weeks ago, the app was flooding people with spam messages from verified business accounts. Most of these advertisements are about pre-approved loans from banks or financial firms.
We gave you the option to disable this feature manually. But Google’s update suggests that the company will be taking this feature off completely and for that you may get an update on the Messages app which you should install immediately.

RCS through the Messages app was Google’s way of competing with Apple iMessage in the market. But such examples don’t help the search engine giant’s cases.
Thankfully, the ads are visible only to users in India, and we haven’t heard of a similar problem in other markets. We are hoping that Google will get to the root of the problem, negotiate with its business partners in the country and fix the problem forever.
