Google may be taking on Apple as it is reportedly working on a Bluetooth tracker of its own, codenamed ‘Grogu’, a reference to ‘The Mandalorian’.

It’s been more than a year and a half since Apple launched the AirTag — a tiny, inconspicuous Bluetooth-enabled tracking device that you can slip into things like a backpack, wallet, and keychain, etc. Now, it looks like Google has decided to take on Apple. As it is reportedly working on a tracker of its own, codenamed ‘Groogu’, a reference to ‘The Mandalorian’.

According to Kuba Wojciechowski via SamMobile, Google’s smart tracker is expected to operate on the same distributed tracking network used by Apple AirTag and Samsung SmartTag. Google May Rename Distributed Tracking Network to ‘Finder Network’ It is believed that the tracker will use Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to function.

Google’s AirTag competitor, Grogu, may also include a speaker similar to the AirTag for audio-based tracking. Additionally, Google’s high-end Pixel series of phones—including the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro—are equipped with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, but UWB technology has been used sparingly.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, Google may resort to its own design language, which it has used for its lineup of devices, including the Pixel smartphones – characterized by minimalist construction and use of pastel colors. is a mixture; Ergo, it’s likely we’ll see the Grug Tracker in multiple, fun colors. On the other hand, Apple’s AirTag only comes in one color – white.

Currently, very little is known about Google’s tracker, but now that Google I/O 2023 is coming up, we might see the company reveal it at the much-anticipated event, later in 2023 or 2024 with the Pixel 8. Will be launched along with the series.
