COIMBATORE: Several playschools and kindergartens in the city witnessed a good turnout on Wednesday as the state government allowed them to reopen after two years.
Teachers welcomed children with gifts. Standard operating procedures prescribed by the health department were enforced in all schools. Teachers checked temperature and provided hand sanitizers before allowing the children to enter.
But many of the schools did not receive the kind of response they expected, while some postponed reopening. They continued to conduct online classes.
“Parents want to wait till the next academic year since the present one is on the verge of completion. However, playschools received better response compared to kindergarten classes,” said K Vishnuteacher of a private kindergarten school in Saravanampatti.
Sumathi, headmistress of Sanganoor Corporation Middle Schoolsaid the school had received 115 admissions for LKG this year, but students did not turn up on day one. “We are in touch with the parents, who plan to send kids after a few days,” she said.
Peepal Prodigy School in Ramanathapuram did not open kindergarten classes as parents are reluctant to send their wards, said director K Kumaraguru, “We expect them to send their wards after urban local body elections are over.”
