Good News for Daily Commuters As Chirag Delhi Flyover Reopens After Over 40-day Repair Work

The work on the first carriageway of the flyover was completed on 31 March while the repair of the second started on 1 April.

Are you taking an alternate route to avoid the Chirag Delhi flyover on the Outer Ring Road following the closure of the stretch in March? Well there is a good news for you.

In a relief for Delhiites, the Chirag Delhi flyover in the national capital was fully reopened on Wednesday. The reopening of the flyover will benefit lakhs of commuters who travel between Nehru Place and IIT every day.

The flyover was closed since the maintenance work started on March 12. The work on the first carriageway of the flyover was completed on 31 March while the repair of the second started on 1 April.

The carriageway was earlier completely closed during maintenance work. However, one lane of the other carriageway remained open to traffic while it was being repaired. Maintenance work on carriageway from Indian Institute technology It was the last one to be completed till Nehru Place.

Three of the four lanes of both carriageways are open to traffic. All four lanes were working since Wednesday.

Due to the repair work, commuters were forced to take alternate routes, resulting in long traffic jams due to extra load on other stretches.

PWD Minister Atishi has said that the complete reopening of the Chirag Delhi flyover will benefit lakhs of commuters traveling between Nehru Place and the Indian Institute of Technology every day.

He said that the Public Works Department (PWD) completed the maintenance work ahead of schedule.

Atishi said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal supervised the maintenance work and monitored the progress regularly.

“The maintenance work had to be stopped several times due to incessant rains last month, which delayed the timeline. However, the PWD showed its commitment by working round the clock and completing the work well before time. We are proud that PWD has taken another step forward towards making Delhi jam free.
