Gone are the days – BJP can’t forget Mukul, Shovon, Baisakhi

On June 11, Mukul Roy left the BJP and went to the grassroots level. Shovan Chatterjee and his girlfriend Baisakhi Bandyopadhyay have officially announced to quit the BJP ahead of the last assembly elections. All three have gone without BJP. But he is still on the list of the party’s executive committee members. At least that information is being shown on the state BJP website. Naturally this question is arising within the BJP.

The Gerua camp was in turmoil in the original and new BJP even before the assembly elections. The nameplate was opened in front of Mukul Roy’s house in the state BJP office after Mukul Roy left the BJP and went to the grassroots level. Thereafter, Shubhendu Adhikari sent a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly to invoke the anti-defection law against Krishnanagar North MLA Mukul Roy. But even after all this, the name of Mukul Roy has not been removed from the party’s website. On the other hand, former Kolkata Mayor Shovan Chatterjee was angry with the party leadership for not contesting from Behala East constituency as per his choice ahead of the assembly elections. Since then his distance from BJP is increasing. He and his girlfriend Baisakhi Bandyopadhyay left the BJP. However, none of them have yet officially joined the grassroots level. However, needless to say that they maintain friendship from the grassroots level. A few days ago Shovan-Baishakhi had gone to the house of Trinamool general secretary Perth Chatterjee. Recently, he had also opened a Facebook account in the name of both, but after so many incidents, now the name of Shovon-Baishakhi is shining on the BJP website.

After the crushing defeat at the grassroots level in the assembly elections, the BJP camp has not been able to organize itself yet. In many places, there is still a competition to leave the BJP and join the grassroots level. In such a situation, the central leadership is hesitant to take a decision on any major organizational reshuffle in the state BJP. The remarks from political circles, but in the mind of the BJP central leadership that Mukul-Shovon-Baishakhi is no longer gone, is clear from the BJP website.
