Haveri: The Union Ministry of Mines has handed over 7 gold mining blocks to the Karnataka government to strengthen the mineral security of the country.
The G-4 phase blocks, which are mainly ready for mineral exploration after preliminary evaluation, will be up for grabs and the state government will have to auction them to generate revenue.
The seven gold mining blocks identified are Kakol and Sevanagar in Haveri district, Belghatta and Katanahatti in Chitradurga district, Kanivelli in Dharwad and Maruthipur, Ballari and Davangere districts of Haveri districts and Mududi in Hassan district. According to GSI sources, the central government has allowed auction of mining activities in 220 sq km of potential mineral area, including gold and limestone, under the new MMDR amendments.
“The recent amendments in MMDR are expected to increase employment, investment, production and revenue in the mining sector in the state. Time-bound operation of mines, maintaining continuity in mining operations after change of lessee and increasing the pace of exploration and auction of mineral sources is important,” said Minister of Mines and Geology Halappa Achar.
Ramesh Ballari, an entrepreneur said that Haveri district does not have any major industries and the allocation of two gold mining blocks of potential mineral dimension G-4 to the district will be crucial for its industrialisation. Generate employment for skilled workers,” he said.
