Gogoro Begins Battery Swapping in India, Launches Pilot Project In Delhi-NCR

EV technology brand Gogoro Inc has launched its battery swapping platform and smartscooter in Delhi-NCR. The launch is a part of the pilot project by Gogoro and Zip Electric that has been announced earlier and also marks the brand’s entry into India’s fastest growing EV market. Battery swapping is a technique where a common swapping station is used to charge multiple batteries, which can be swapped on the go with empty batteries. With over 450 million battery swaps done globally, Gogoro’s 6-second Swap & Go battery swapping has been awarded globally for urban two-wheeler refueling, which takes the hassle out of finding places to charge and then recharging. Eliminates traditional EV charging challenges of waiting.

Recently, there has been a significant growth of 58% in India’s electric vehicle sales, which have crossed the million mark. Most of these sales were of electric two-wheelers, which account for 62% of the market share. Experts believe that for last-mile delivery where vehicles are often on the road all day without stopping and charging, battery swapping is the perfect solution. The entire 6-second swap process offered by Gogoro is faster than a typical refueling stop on an ICE-powered motorcycle or scooter.

Horace Luke, Founder and CEO, Gogoro, said, “Gogoro is accelerating the urban transition to sustainable electric two-wheeler transportation in India and we are committed to fostering an open and diverse ecosystem of businesses and riders that share a vision of accessibility.
