POINGUINIM: an adult Green sea Tortoise Which was Trapped in fishing Net Gained a new lease on life as it was, in Palolem, Canacona released back to the sea After treatment of minor injuries by the Forest Department.
After lifeguards at Palolem informed the forest department in the Pisonam range, forest guards Manjunath Kalangutkar and Datta Velip reached the beach and captured the green turtle, which is rarely seen on the state’s coast.
Pisonam range forest officer Devidas Velip said, the tortoise got injured in one of its flippers. Dr. Anisha Pinheiro, Veterinary Officer in Canacona was called to treat the injured reptile.
After receiving a dose of antibiotics and some care to make sure it recovered from its exhaustion, the turtle was handed over to the forest staff. The trapped flipped creature weighed about 150 kilograms.
It has been found that such species of turtles are mostly found in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Some sources said that they are herbivores and eat mostly sea grass and algae.
