Goa polls: Voting for Congress is indirectly voting for BJP, claims Kejriwal amid AAP campaign

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly elections 2022, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the people of Goa have only two options: AAP or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“The people of Goa have only two options (AAP or BJP),” ANI quoted Kejriwal as saying in its report.

According to the Chief Minister of Delhi, if people do not vote for AAP, they are indirectly voting for BJP.

“I have heard that many BJP workers are contesting elections on Congress tickets, like in the Salsette region, so that they can join the BJP later. People need to be aware that if they are not voting for (AAP) So they are indirectly voting for BJP. … The people of Goa have only two options (AAP or BJP),” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal reached Goa for a four-day campaign.

Speaking to the media after reaching Panaji, Kejriwal said that in the past, when citizens voted for the Congress, the elected MLAs joined the BJP. He insisted that voting for AAP ensures “clean and honest administration in Goa”.

Arvind Kejriwal last month announced lawyer-turned-politician Amit Palekar as the party’s CM candidate ahead of the 2022 Goa Assembly elections.

Goa Assembly Election 2022

With the term of the current Goa Legislative Assembly ending on March 15, the Goa Legislative Assembly elections will be held in one phase, i.e. in the second phase of the 2022 Assembly elections.

The date of polling in Goa is 14 February 2021. Counting of votes for all the states will take place on March 10, 2022.

Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2017

The last election in Goa was held on February 4, 2017, in which Congress emerged as the single largest party with 17 MLAs. The election results marked the beginning of a hung assembly in the state, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 13 seats in the 40-member assembly.

The BJP was successful in forming the government with the support of regional parties and independent candidates.

However, the BJP formed a coalition government with the support of Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and two independent candidates to reach the magic figure of 21 in the 40-member House.
