Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the Drone Policy 2022 on Monday. As per the policy, the government will engage with technical institutions and academicians to prepare courses related to drones for use in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, health, mining and other sectors. The Drone Policy 2022 has suggested to consider the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for efficient and effective governance.

The policy states, “The government will help set up drone schools that offer various courses in drone operations and pilot certification.” The policy noted that “drones provide tremendous benefits to nearly every sector of the economy, including agriculture, infrastructure, emergency response, transportation, geospatial mapping, media, entertainment, law enforcement, and others, but these are not limited to.”

The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications in its policy has said that the state government will give benefits to drone as well as drone component manufacturers and service providers under the Goa Start-up Policy 2021 and Goa IT Policy 2018. Apart from this, drones will be the major focus area for the government for the purpose of any additional incentives, which have been mentioned in the policy.

Since this technology is at a nascent stage, the government is making efforts to create an industry ready workforce. The IT department will also develop capacity building programs for government officials, creating modular training customized to individual needs based on service levels and sectors. The policy also aims to create a network of certified drone pilots and trainers in the state.
