Panaji: To prevent the spread of omicron Variant, the state government on Tuesday decided to conduct mandatory COVID-19 tests for all international passengers at the Goa International Airport and Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Said international travelers will have to pay for the test.
The state government has also decided to give a 14-day order. quarantine For travelers coming into the state from 12 countries listed by the central government.
Sawant held a high-level meeting on Tuesday to discuss the precautions needed to stop the spread of Omicron.
Health Minister attended the meeting Vishwajit Rane, health officers, doctors of Goa Medical College and Hospital and representatives of MPT and Dabolim airport.
The Chief Minister said that strict protocol will be followed at the airport and MPT.
“We have taken a decision that international passengers arriving at the airport and MPT will have to undergo mandatory testing for COVID-19 and quarantine travelers from the 12 countries listed by the central government. They will be monitored. They will also have to undergo 14 days of quarantine and after seven days, get themselves tested again,” Sawant said.
Commenting that citizens should take adequate precautions against the new COVID variant, Sawant said that the government would take whatever necessary precautions to control the spread of the new variant.
Sawant said that the circular issued by the central government does not mention anything about charter flights, but a new circular on charter flights is likely to be issued on Wednesday.
