Panaji: Big blow to Congress’s three-time MLA Alexio from Curtorim reginaldo lourenco Resigned on Monday.
Four days ago, he was announced as the party’s Curtorim candidate for the 2022 assembly elections.
Lourenco is likely to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Lourenco submitted his resignation to the Goa Legislature Secretary in Porvorim.
Lourenco was earlier in talks with the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but the Congress managed to persuade him not to leave the party.
With Lourenco’s resignation, the Congress’s strength in the Assembly has been reduced to just two MLAs, including Leader of Opposition and Madgaon MLA Digambar Kamat and Congress’s senior Porim MLA Pratapsinh Rane.
Sources said that he will leave for Kolkata to join the TMC in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Recently, former Chief Minister and former MLA of Navelim Luizinho Faleiro had resigned from Congress to join TMC, who later became TMC Rajya Sabha member.
