Earlier on Friday, cash-strapped budget carrier GoFirst had announced that they will resume scheduled flight operations subject to availability and approval of flight schedules by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), with additional conditions.

GoFirst stopped flying from May 3, a major blow to its passengers as it was undergoing insolvency resolution process and a special audit of the airline by aviation regulator DGCA following a preliminary review of the restoration plan submitted by the Resolution Professional (RP) for the airline on June 28, 2023.

“GoFirst may resume scheduled flight operations upon availability of interim funding and approval of the flight schedule by DGCA. Further, GoFirst is directed to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, ensure continued airworthiness of aircraft in operation and subject each aircraft to a satisfactory flight operation prior to deployment for flight operations,” said a press release.

On 10 May, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) accepted the airline’s voluntary plea to initiate resolution proceedings. Srinivasan also told the tribunal that the DGCA has constituted a special audit committee to audit the aircraft and its preparedness before allowing them to resume operations as per the business resumption plan.
