Gmail Security: How to Prevent Spam, Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Your Mail

Gmail has emerged as an important means of communication, especially in the professional sphere. Considering how the application is used by most of us on a daily basis to communicate and receive important messages, there are a few tips and tricks that can make your user experience even more efficient.

Block spam messages:

Most of our Gmail inboxes are filled with messages from marketers and brands asking you to take a survey or use their latest discount coupon. You can always unsubscribe from your Gmail by unsubscribing from future emails within the message itself, rather than following a suspicious link to a third-party page.

To keep future mail out of your inbox, click the Unsubscribe link mentioned under the sent message notification header.

If you don’t find the unsubscribe link under the message, you can block future messages with another method.

Step 1: Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the spam email to reveal a popup menu.

Step 2: Select Block option from the pop-up menu and report the message as spam or phishing scheme.

Step 3: As soon as you click on either of the two options, Gmail will block the sender and push future messages to your inbox.

If you report an email as spam or phishing, it helps Gmail track and prevent these messages from getting into the inboxes of other Gmail users.

2. Protect Your Gmail From Hackers Using Two-Step Verification

To make sure your account is secure, you should keep track of your Gmail activities. One way to do this is by checking the account’s recent activity. At the bottom of your inbox you’ll find an indicator indicating when was the last time someone used your account. Click Options to view the IP addresses and devices used to send email from your account. You can also block IP addresses from accessing your account again.

Follow these steps to set up a two-step verification process for your Gmail account:

Step 1: Open your Google Account on the computer and click on the Security tab on the left.

Step 2: Select 2-Step Verification option and then click on Get Started option.

Step 3: Add your Google password to confirm that it is you and then click on Try it now option,

Step 4: Select Yes option on the Google pop-up that appears on your smart device.

Step 5: Now confirm your phone number as a backup option if the Google prompt doesn’t work.

Step 6: Enter the code sent to your number and click on the next option.

Step 7: As the last step, select Turn on to enable two-factor authentication.
