Glenn Maxwell scored his fourth fifty IPL 2021, Continuing their impressive form with the bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday took a major step towards securing a playoff berth. Maxwell scored a half-century – 50* for 30 – to guide RCB to a seven-wicket victory as they chased down a target of 150 in 17.1 overs against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai.
Maxwell has now scored 350 runs in 10 innings in this IPL season with an average of 38.88. Maxwell said of his form with the bat during a post-match interview with the broadcaster, “Ever since I’ve been here, getting into a good routine in training, I’ve loved it.”
RCB bowlers dashed RR’s hopes of a challenging total after Kohli opted to field first. The opening pair of Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal made a strong start of 77 runs for Rajasthan. Lewis scored 58 while Jaiswal scored 31 but none of the other RR batsmen contributed well as they finished with 149/9 in 20 overs.
“We played really well, they (RR) got off to a flight but it was excellent to bring it back in the last 10 (overs). “It’s nice to be able to be in a group of people doing different things, rather than adjusting to just one particular player,” Maxwell said of RCB’s performance.
He also heaped a lot of praise on wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat, who is batting at the crucial number. 3 places. Sharing a 69-run stand with Maxwell for the third wicket, India scored 44 for 35 before being dismissed.
“KS Bharat is a real top class batsman, will not ask him to bat at No 3 as an experiment. It’s working beautifully for us at the moment,” Maxwell said.
This was RCB’s seventh win in 11 matches and with this they have taken their points to 14. Their next match will be against Punjab Kings on Sunday.
