“We don’t know how to do politics, but we certainly know how to open schools and eradicate corruption,” Kejriwal said in his trademark style. He said that AAP has done development in Delhi and now it will do so in Punjab also.

“You have given 30 years to Congress and 17 years to BJP to rule the state. All they did was loot Himachal. Just give me five years. If you are not satisfied, you can replace us,” he urged the enthusiastic crowd, addressing him from an open jeep.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress of promoting dynasty politics, he said that AAP is a party of the Aam Aadmi whose only aim is development.

“Ki hal hai mandi wale (how are you, mandi people)? I have performed here several times during the Shivratri festival,” Bhagwant Mann told the gathering. Kejriwal said that he will develop Himachal and Punjab on the same lines as Delhi.

A road show with the song ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ took place from Victoria Bridge to Seri Manch, where a public meeting was held. The rally, dubbed ‘Tiranga Yatra’, marked AAP’s entry into the state’s political spectrum and supporters waved the tricolor.

Even though no big face of BJP or Congress joined AAP on the occasion, the gathering at Jai Ram Thakur’s home ground was impressive. Political observers said the roadshow has given the party the momentum it was hoping to make at least in the electoral state.

AAP has already made it clear its intention to contest elections in Himachal later this year by fielding candidates from all 68 assembly constituencies.
