Give AAP a chance in Gujarat, Kejriwal kicks off party’s election campaign with roadshow

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann on Saturday appealed to the people of Gujarat to give a chance to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Ahmedabad and accuse the ruling BJP of being arrogant. Buoyed by their party’s thumping victory in Punjab, AAP leaders promised to “end corruption” in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat, where assembly elections are due by the year-end.

Kejriwal, who is the national convener of AAP, and Mann embarked on a two-km road show called “Tiranga Gaurav Yatra”. They were standing on top of a truck that looked like a ‘rath’ (chariot), on its side were AAP leaders from Gujarat, Isudan Gadhvi and Gopal Italia, virtually launching the party’s election campaign. Kejriwal, who arrived in the city in the morning on a two-day visit to Ahmedabad with Mann, said he was not here to defeat the BJP or the Congress, but wanted to make the state and its people victorious and end corruption. “You gave them (BJP) 25 years, now give us a chance. You gave a chance to you in Delhi and Punjab, now give us a chance in Gujarat, and with 6.5 crore people (of the state), we will take the state forward. Will go.”

“BJP has been ruling the state for more than 25 years and still it has not been able to eliminate corruption. 25 years is a very long period,” he said. The Delhi Chief Minister said that after being in power for more than 25 years, the BJP has become “arrogant” and does not listen to the people.

He said, “Give you a chance. If you don’t like it, change it.” He said that in Delhi he has improved the condition of schools and hospitals, eliminated corruption and made electricity free and available 24 hours a day. Kejriwal said Mann has eliminated corruption in Punjab within 10 days of becoming the CM, ordered private schools not to increase fees and announced a recruitment drive to fill 25,000 vacancies.

“I don’t know how to do politics. But I do know how to eliminate corruption. We ended corruption in Delhi, where you don’t have to pay bribes in government offices anymore. In Punjab, Bhagwant Mann ended corruption in ten days. done.” he said. Mann said the AAP is ready to replicate what it has achieved in Delhi and Punjab in Gujarat.

“You have emerged from a revolution, and we do not tolerate corruption. Wherever there is corruption, people are raising ‘jhadu’ (broom, the party’s election symbol). This mud of corruption and arrogance has to be removed,” he said. spoke. The Punjab Chief Minister also referred to the recent cases of paper leaks during examinations for government recruitment in Gujarat and said that the leakage is not limited to question papers only.

The roadshow started from Khodiyar Mataji Temple in Nikol, where both the leaders took the blessings of the Goddess. Earlier, Kejriwal and Mann visited the Sabarmati Ashram and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. A large number of AAP workers and supporters thronged the road carrying the tricolor in their hands and marched with ‘raths’ to loud cheers amid patriotic songs being played by the musical systems. The roadshow is seen as a show of strength of the AAP, which seeks to provide a new alternative in Gujarat, which has seen a two-way fight between the BJP and the Congress for the past several decades.
