Jammu: Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad interacts with the media in Jammu

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday urged the central government that the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir at an all-party meeting in Delhi should be implemented in the “short-term”. People will benefit.

Speaking to the media on Monday night, Azad was talking about restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir after delimitation and holding elections, as assured by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir in a meeting held last month. .

Strongly supporting the holding of assembly elections, he said that there is no representative in Jammu and Kashmir for the last four years, which is the biggest reason for the lack of development in the union territory.

“Our request to the central government would be that the assurances given by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister in the all-party meeting should be implemented in the short term rather than the long term, or medium term, as it will benefit the people,” Azad said.

He said that Governor’s rule is not enough to ensure progress in Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress leader said, “Governor’s rule alone is not enough for progress in Jammu and Kashmir. Assembly is also very important. We have received feedback from the people as well.”

He said it is very important for everyone, including political parties, to participate in elections in J&K at this time because if someone refuses to contest, “we will be in trouble again which I do not want at all”.

He said that if Jammu and Kashmir is given statehood first, people will participate in the elections in good numbers. Azad, in response to a question about the Pegasus controversy, said he was not bothered by it.

Replying to another question about a new order of the government in Jammu and Kashmir related to security clearance to people to get passports or jobs, Azad said stone pelters in Kashmir were jailed even before this order. was done.

“This is nothing new and everyone knows that anyone who speaks against the country has to be in jail and does not require any verification,” he said. Azad underestimated the party’s differences in Jammu and Kashmir.
