Germany evacuates about 2,000 people from Afghanistan

The German military has airlifted about 2,000 people from Kabul airport, Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karenbauer told reporters on Saturday.

He said two light helicopters sent to Kabul overnight are ready to launch an evacuation operation from the city, which will be coordinated with international partners on the ground.

Germany’s chief of defense, General Eberhard Zorn, said the German air force would deliver baby food and clean items at the airport to Kabul.
