‘Gearing up for some white-ball cricket’: Rohit Sharma out of isolation sweats it out in the nets – watch

Ahead of the rescheduled Test against England, India suffered a major setback as Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the game due to Covid-19. He tested positive during the 4-day practice game against Leicestershire and was sent to isolation. But now the Indian skipper is fit and is training for the upcoming bilateral series against Jos Buttler-led England, consisting of 3 T20Is and as many ODIs after that.

Rohit was seen sweating in the nets at Edgbaston on Monday. Since he missed the fifth Test, he is using the time to train himself for the shorter formats. He had a tremendous IPL season recently in which he scored just 268 runs in 14 matches at a disappointing average of 19.14. Fans will look forward to a better and fresher comeback when he leads the Indian team on English soil.

Meanwhile, BCCI shared a video in which Rohit can be seen practicing at Edgbaston Nets. He batted against off-spinner Ashwin, whose arrival in the United Kingdom was delayed as he contracted Covid.

“@ImRo45- Out and almost in the nets! Ready for some white ball cricket,” BCCI captioned the video.

Earlier on Sunday, news agency PTI reported that Rohit has tested negative and is out of isolation. It has also been learned that he will be available for the white-ball series against England, starting with the first T20I in Southampton on 7 July.

“Yes, Rohit has tested negative and as per medical protocol is out of quarantine now. However, he is not playing today’s T20 warm-up match against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery and training before the first T20 match.

As per medical protocol, any player who is out of quarantine has to undergo a mandatory heart test to check lung capacity post COVID-19.

While Rohit will play the first game of the white-ball series, the second game will provide players like Virat Kohli, Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. The first T20I Test will begin on July 7, two days after the scheduled end on July 5.
