Gautam Gambhir Quitting Politics? See His Latest Tweet

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has posted something on X (formerly called Twitter) that has sparked speculations on social media. The star cricketer who is currently an MP from East Delhi has requested the BJP president JP Nadda to relieve him of his political duties so that he may focus on his cricket commitments. He has also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity to serve the people.

Sounds like bidding adieu? Well, only Gauti knows Gauti’s mind but this announcement seems to be ‘Gambhir’ for netizens as hundreds of reactions are pouring into his comment box. “Wrong decision Gauti Sir”, writes a user. “Politics lost today. India lost today”, writes another.

Not sure if he will continue in politics but just ahead of elections, this post has surely confirmed that Gautam Gambhir isn’t contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. In the 2019 general elections, he garnered 696,158 votes and won by a margin of more than double the number of votes than his opponent Arvinder Singh Lovely. AAP candidate Atishi Marlena also contested from the very same seat and was limited to the third position.

BJP won all 7 seats in Delhi in the last Lok Sabha elections. Now, as Gautam chooses to opt-out, fielding a new candidate from the seat is a big decision that the party needs to make.
