“He was a very successful player then he became a very successful captain and I am sure he is going to be a very successful coach. With him in that dressing room, I think he brings a lot of assurance, he has played over 100 Test matches.

He captained the team, his work ethic was incredible, really hard working. So, I think he brings a lot to the table,” Gambhir said on the follow the blues show on Star Sports.

Before taking up the job of India’s head coach, Dravid served as the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after four years as head coach of the India A and Under-19 sides.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that Dravid’s war-like mindset as the head coach of the Indian team and stability will also come to the fore with his leadership skills.

“When you think of Rahul Dravid, the first thing that comes to my mind is process – planning, executing that plan, crude, careful, looking ahead, looking ahead. He doesn’t mind losing those little battles, and his goal is to win the war outright. So, this war winning mindset and attitude will come with his leadership as well as some degree of stability.”
