Ganesh mandal in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi recreates 120-feet high replica of Ayodhya’s Ram temple | Thane News – Times of India

BHIWANDI: A Ganesh mandal at Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra has created a replica of Ayodhya‘s Ram temple which has now become the centre of attraction among devotees.
Dhamankar Naka Mitra Mandal, which is famous for creating replicas of prominent temples during the Ganesh festival, has made a 120- feet high replica of Ayodhya’s Ram temple.
Not only people from the city, but also from adjoining Kalyan and Thane are visiting the pandal to take a glimpse of the decoration and click selfies.
To make the replica of the temple, the mandal had engaged 125 artists, including 90 from Kolkata, for over 40 days. Over 5,000 bamboos, 10,000 meter clothes and 10 tonnes of sticks were used to make the replica which is 98% eco-friendly.
Santosh Shetty, president of Dhamankar Naka Mitra Mandal and Swabhiman Seva Sanstha said, “Every year, we built replica of famous temples from across the country and since lord Ram’s temple is under construction, this year we decided to built its replica.”
As per Shetty, around 20,000 devotees visit mandal daily to take the blessing of lord Ganesha and to see the replica of Rama’s temple.
The mandal, which is celebrating 34th year this year, has for the 10th time organized drawing competition on former President of India Dr Abdul Kalam in which over 4,000 students participated.

Dilip Potdar, mandal’s representative said, “During drawing competition, we had also organised street play of 22 schools on various social issues such as child abuse, self-protection for women and other issues to make awareness among students.”
To encourage games like Langadi and Malkhambh, the mandal has also organised its competition. It also donated 25 stitching machines to widows for their empowerment.
