The streets and alleys across the city were a sight of carnivals as thousands of devotees gathered near water bodies in Hyderabad carrying their idols. Ganesha. Jai Bolo Ganesh Mantra Chanting Maharaj Ki‘ and ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ reverberated on the streets in the rain on Sunday afternoon as the people of the city danced on the streets and celebrated with enthusiasm. The first and largest procession of the day was Shobha Yatra of the prestigious Khairatabad Bada Ganesh. The procession started in the morning and till around 3 pm, folk artistes and youth danced to three beats and DJ music.
Sreeja, a resident of Nampally, who had come with a group of friends, said, “Ever since I was a kid, I have always come every year to watch the immersion in Tank Bund. Khairatabad Ganesha Murthy comes to town during this time and I am very happy to experience it again after staying at home last year. The experience of Ganesh Visarjan in Hyderabad is truly an amazing sight.”
Soon after Bada Ganesh Visarjan, Ganesh idols from Charminar, Begum Bazaar, Mehdipatnam and other parts of the city made their way towards Tank Bund. Different dress codes at different pandals added color to the celebrations as women, children and elders exchanged sweets and danced to the tune of Kishore Maar Band.
