Galwan and Doklam would have been lost if India had not invested in armed forces: Deputy Army Chief Mohan

New Delhi: Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen CP Mohanty said on Sunday that India would have lost the battles in Galwan and Doklam if India had not invested in weapons.

“If the country had not invested in security, we might have lost the wars in Kargil, Doklam. Internal security in J&K would also have been in turmoil. Our northeastern region would have been in turmoil and the Naxals would have had a field. day,” Lieutenant General Mohanty said at an event, according to ANI.

Responding to arguments on spending on armed forces, he was quoted as saying, “If Tibet had strong armed forces, they would never have invaded.”

Lt Gen Mohanty also said that the Doklam and Galwan incidents have given the country a ‘big stature’ in the international arena while enhancing the country’s prestige. He also said that the Indian Armed Forces are symbols of national unity as they rise above ethnicity, caste and creed.

“Today everyone talks about India as a pure security provider and it is a security umbrella against a bigger nation,” he said.

He highlighted that the Indian Armed Forces have no political aspirations and respect politics in the country.

“There are other instances where military leaders had political aspirations. Indian armed forces have no such aspirations, we respect the politics here,” he insisted.
