GAIL: Indore first city to get H-CNG service commercially – Times of India

New Delhi: Indore becomes the first city in the country to receive hydrogen-blended CNG – called H-CNG – service, operated by the state Gayle Undertake a project to sell fuel from outlets run by my City Gas Joint Venture, Avantika Gas Limited
H-CNG is a cleaner burning fuel than CNG and its use leads to further reduction in vehicular emissions, which helps in reducing air pollution in cities. H-CNG is also a major component of National Hydrogen Mission
The company on Monday said GAIL is currently blending CNG sold at Indore City Gate station with ‘gray’ hydrogen, which will be replaced with ‘green’ hydrogen. Gray hydrogen is produced by separating hydrogen molecules from natural gas, while green hydrogen is produced by electrolyzing water using renewable energy.
The project will establish the techno-commercial feasibility of injecting hydrogen into the city’s gas network. The company has engaged domain experts to assess the impact of hydrogen blending.
The government has identified natural gas as a bridge fuel for the energy transition, while the National Hydrogen Mission emphasizes its promotion as the fuel of the future. The GAIL project aims to amalgamate the two to promote national net-zero efforts.
