Threatening calls to Gadkari Updates: The man who made the threat call to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s Nagpur office demanding Rs 100 crore is a jail inmate in Karnataka’s Belagavi town who was recently sentenced to death by a court in a murder case. sunday.

The caller, who claimed that he was a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, has been identified as Jayesh Pujari. A senior official said that prima facie he made the call using a mobile phone from the jail. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the motive of the caller was being probed and the Karnataka Police was helping.

A team of Nagpur Police’s crime branch, led by an assistant inspector, reached Belagavi late on Saturday night. The official said the team may request the jail authorities to allow them to interrogate Pujari on Monday.

The landline number of Gadkari’s public relations office in Nagpur’s Khamla area received at least three threat calls between 11.25 am and 12.30 pm on Saturday, following which security at the home and office of the BJP MP from Nagpur was tightened. ,

“Pujari was sentenced to death by a court in a murder case. He is a dreaded goon who managed to escape from jail in 2016. He was later arrested by the Karnataka Police,” the official said. He said Pujari had made threat calls to some senior officials in the past.

Police had earlier said, “The caller told the phone operator in Gadkari’s office that he was a member of the D gang and demanded Rs 100 crore from the minister. He threatened to harm the minister with a bomb.” ” ,

Meanwhile, Fadnavis said the investigation into the threat call would continue till the motive of the caller is known. “Nagpur Police traced the call to Belgaum. With the help of Karnataka Police it emerged that the call was made from the jail. Investigation is on to understand how a mobile phone reached the jail concerned and what was the purpose of it behind the call,” he said.
