PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Germany to attend the G-7 summit.

G7 Summit in Germany: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez and the leaders discussed ways to deepen commercial and cultural ties between the two countries.

Modi arrived here on Sunday on a two-day visit to Germany to attend the G-7 summit. He will hold discussions with leaders of the powerful bloc and its allies on issues such as energy, food security, counter-terrorism, environment and democracy.

“Intensifying friendship with Argentina. PM @narendramodi held talks with President @alferdez in Munich. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen commercial and cultural ties between India and Argentina,” Prime Minister’s Office told Modi Said in a tweet on the first bilateral meeting of Travel to two countries.

Besides India, Germany, the host of the G7 summit, has also invited Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa as guests to recognize the democracies of the Global South as their partners.

In 2019, India-Argentina ties were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. The multifaceted relationship between the two countries has strengthened over the years and includes political, economic, cultural and scientific and technological cooperation.

India opened a trade commission in Buenos Aires in 1943, which was later transformed into one of India’s first embassies in South America in 1949, according to the Indian Embassy in Argentina.

There are about 2,600 NRIs/PIOs in Argentina. Most of them live in the capital city of Buenos Aires, including professionals working with Indian companies and multinational corporations.

From Germany, Modi will travel to the United Arab Emirates on June 28 to condole the death of former Gulf President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khalifa passed away on May 13 after battling the disease for the past several years.
